Application Statement Feedback Program

Our goal is to provide fast, constructive feedback and editing support for the research/personal statements of PhD applicants in psychology, with an emphasis on underrepresented minorities and/or those who are not ‘in the know.’

ASFP will not be occurring in fall of 2025.

ASFP is experiencing challenges to maintaining and developing the sophisticated technical systems that carry out our multi-step, complex, and fast-paced program, and as a result, the program will not be possible to operate this fall.

We are very disappointed that this year we cannot support applicants to psychology PhD programs in putting their best foot forward in the application process.

This year’s pause means nothing with respect to our commitment to improving our field by supporting underserved applicants. ASFP is and has always been an entirely volunteer-supported organization. All of the hundreds of people (including editors, feedback reviewers, and Core Team members) who contribute do so on the side, in addition to their “real jobs.” Most of the people who support ASFP are trainees - PhD students and postdoctoral fellows. Unfortunately, even though much of the work of the program is distributed, the central aspects of running the program requires disproportionately large amounts of time and effort from a few critical people to ensure that the complex underlying systems work smoothly, quickly, and correctly - and it is at this level that we are facing challenges.

We hope that ASFP will return in fall 2026! In the meantime, we remind interested would-be applicants (and editors) that, as always, we have posted all of our ASFP-developed materials (including training materials, guides, rubrics, and more) HERE, for free, for anyone’s use.

We hope to see you again in fall 2026. Good luck to all the applicants!
